“You are what you eat” is a saying we like to paraphrase as “You live how you are”. The interior of your home is as personal as your favourite perfume or your favourite shirt. That is why we handle it with such care as interior architects. All the more so when it comes to a townhouse that has been passed from mother to daughter for four generations.
A bespoke dressing room
The owners first came to our showroom to have a bespoke dressing room made. Interior architect Shannen Smets presented a number of wardrobe systems. “Together we chose the warm lacquer colours and the interior layout by Poliform. The client fell for the simple, sleek look of the Italian brand straight away.”
The dark colours make the dressing room a calm and welcoming space. “The chest of drawers in the middle is a Poliform piece too, made to measure for the room and finished in one of their beautiful veneers. The dressing room is closed off with sliding doors by Rimadesio. They are the market leader in working with glass and metal. Alongside sliding and hinged doors, their extensive range also includes furniture and wardrobe systems.”
A fresh look for the heirlooms
The clients were impressed by the dressing room and asked Shannen to take another look at the living room as well. “Here we added a few new elements: the Softdream sofa by Flexform and the Fat-Fat side tables by B&B Italia. The palette is light, fresh and young, really the opposite of what you expect in a classic townhouse.”
The living room held two armchairs that, like the house itself, have been in the family for four generations. Beautiful heirlooms, though you could tell they had a few years on the clock. “For those we called on the talents of our own Master workshop,” Shannen says. “The armchairs have been completely reupholstered and their elegant legs are as good as new. The curtains were made in our workshop too.”
Do take a moment to enjoy the wonderful interior of this townhouse. All the visible architectural elements, including the floor and the doors in the hall, are still original. How could you not fall for that?
