A strong bond, built over the years
We first met this client around ten years ago in our showroom. Our interior architect Mieke helped them with their bedroom and dressing room at the time, and with choosing a new dining table and chairs. Their son was still a little one back then. These days that “little one” stands on his own two feet and our clients have retired, so it was high time to adapt the house properly to their new situation.
An interior to enjoy
The clients told Mieke all about their new situation. Their home had a lovely room, the former front parlour, that was barely used but that they were keen to put to good use.
Since retiring, they live in a completely different rhythm. There is more free time: time to read, to listen to music, to enjoy the garden, to have friends over and to spoil their son and daughter-in-law. In short, more time to enjoy life.
How the project unfolded
Mieke visited the couple several times. The first visit was to measure the rooms and get a feel for the space, which made it easier for the clients to show exactly what they had in mind.
Mieke also came back during the design stage with materials and colour schemes. Decisions about colours, rugs, types of wood and fabrics are best made on site, certainly when so many different elements come together.
A welcome challenge
This project in Olen was a real pleasure to work on, not least because the client’s wishes were clearly defined and the budget allowed for it.
The challenge was considerable: three rooms that flow into one another, plus a kitchen area. Together they had to form a whole, while each kept an identity of its own.
There was a corner for television and music, a reading and welcoming area, and a space for a dining table and sideboard that could double as a desk and storage.
The owners also have a number of artworks that needed to take a central place in the interior, so giving those the attention they deserved was part of the assignment.
Working with these clients was a pleasure, because they enjoy design and interiors themselves. They already had some good ideas, but were finding it hard to bring everything together into a result that was both beautiful and practical.
The outcome of our collaboration? A modern, warm, colourful and contemporary interior with a special place for art. An interior to enjoy.
