Master Interior turns its clients’ dream interiors into reality, whether the client is a private individual, an architect, or a successful entertainment group. Master interior designers Hans and Isabelle share how the design of the Churchill Club, an exclusive restaurant for the musical 40-45, came to be.
Studio 100 approached Master Meubel directly for the development of the Churchill Club. “At the beginning, the request was still quite abstract,” say Hans and Isabelle. “We knew that Studio 100 wanted a ‘vipper than vip’ space for 40-45, a musical set during World War II. For the first meeting, we created three mood boards. We based them on colors and materials from that period.”
The Master team met for the first time with Gert Verhulst and Sergio Herman at AIRrepublic, Sergio’s restaurant in the Cadzand marina, at the end of March. “Gert and Sergio clearly stated their expectations. That six-hour brainstorming session became the foundation for our design.”
When designing an interior, the architects take the client’s wishes into account whenever possible. “In the Churchill Club, circulation was important, for example. That’s why the spaces subtly flow into one another. At the same time, they can be separated from each other by the curtain system in the center of the restaurant.”
Process
The preliminary design by Hans and Isabelle was relatively quickly approved by Gert and Sergio. “Of course, they made suggestions and remained involved. It’s a process you go through. For example, Gert found the atmosphere and comfort to be important.”
The performances of 40-45 take place in a pop-up theater. “But the Churchill Club will be used intensively for a long period,” say Hans and Isabelle. “We took that into account as well. The client gives us input, and we think things through from scratch. Everyone receives a personalized approach.”
Made to measure
A custom design, thanks to the creativity of the interior architects, the wide selection of furniture from different collections, and the flexibility of the Master Atelier. “Sofas, the counter, shelves, the bar – all of this was custom-made in the atelier. We also carried out the wallpapering ourselves. We ensured the best combinations of shapes, materials, fabrics, leathers, and lacquer colors.”
The Churchill Club was delivered in mid-September. “A project with a short turnaround, made possible only thanks to the pleasant collaboration with Studio 100. During the delivery and placement of the furniture, we were on-site ourselves. We always want to be present for this, to fine-tune at the last moment. As Sergio emphasized to us: perfection lies in the details.”
