These clients mainly wanted to let more daylight flow through their home,” says interior architect Isabelle. “They even considered the idea of demolishing the short walls between the front seating area and the central dining area to create one large space. However, I advised them to retain those authentic architectural features, just like the two original fireplaces.” Isabelle created more air and light with the right combination of furniture, lighting, and window treatments. “That’s why we also chose to work around the fireplaces, as they set the mood in the spaces.
Seating area at the front
The seating furniture in the front seating area consists of a Cor Pilotis sofa and the compact 369 armchair by Walter Knoll. “The armchair can easily be moved: closer to the fireplace, arranged in a circle when there are visitors, facing the television… Moreover, the velvet upholstery is ideal as a color accent and adds extra texture next to the leather Cor sofa.” Porro provided both a light but well-filled Load It bookshelf and the Modern floating TV unit.
Light in the dining room
The focal point in the dining area is the Modern cabinet by Porro. “The combination of colors and materials adds a playful touch to the whole. Here and there, contrast is needed to add some flair and prevent it from becoming too bland. The layout of the Modern cabinet was completely tailored to the type of glassware and the dimensions of certain crockery that needed to fit in.”
The Arco Slim table and bench, the Walter Knoll Liz chairs, and the Zanatto Calamo desk in the corner complement each other wonderfully. “The bench makes the whole of the three interconnected spaces feel calmer than if there were eight chairs. For the same reason, we chose the Lumina Italia Dot pendant light with the flat disc. Due to the slender design of the table and bench, they can be dark without making the space feel darker.”
Colors + furniture + curtains = light
Anyone who looks at the photos below will agree that we can stamp this interior with ‘mission accomplished.’ “Thanks to the recommended colors for the paintwork, the right furniture, and the semi-transparent curtains at the front, the entire space looks airier than ever, and daylight seeps through into the dining area,” concludes Isabelle.
